The summer months in the Northeast can get excruciatingly hot with temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees. An air conditioner is a necessity for your home and there are plenty of different options to choose from. Let’s take a look a 4 different types of air conditioners for your home!
-
Central Air Conditioning:
Commonly just referred to as central air, central air conditioning is one of the more popular options in households due to its ability to efficiently cool all parts of a house. The air is circulated through a system of supply and return ducts. It runs through the house and once it hits a certain temperature, the system registers it and returns the air back to the air conditioner for cooling. Installing central air is a lengthy process but is a great long term purchase for a household!
-
Ductless/Mini Split Air Conditioner:
Like central air, ductless or mini split air conditioner units are meant for homes that are retrofitted. These are units in the walls that you can control from the inside but also have an exterior compressor/condenser. If you are looking to cool specific parts of a house or individual rooms, this might be your best option since you can design where the units are put it. Many ductless systems can have up to four different units attached to it. The big advantage here is that each unit has its own controllable thermostat.
-
Window Air Conditioner
A window air conditioner is a smaller, compact unit best designed to cool a small area or room. These work by emitting the warm air out the back and blowing cool air in through the vents. They also go by the name “unitary unit”.
-
Portable Air Conditioner
Portable air conditioners are a version of window units, except you don’t actually put them in a window. They work the same way by sucking out the warm air and blowing in cool air. The only difference is the warm air exits the room through an exhaust hose which is attached to a window. They are much easier to move around and affordable. They are also ideal for when you want to cool down a singular room or small area.
